Uffizi Gallery

Description: The Uffizi is one of the most, if not the most, important Italian museums. The organization is composed by several departments, each of which has a specific goal, such as: organizing exhibitions, information to visitors, custody of the exhibited objects, description of  art-historical objects, collaboration with primary and secondary schools, management of library and archives, management of the photographic department, communication department (information through the Internet) ; computer science department and much more.

Students who intern here are assigned a job of bibliographical researches, inventory description and labeling of books, which prepares the real cataloging of the books. They will be tasked with text catalogue management, book organizing, filing new entries and organizing general layout among other things.

UNESCO

Description: The UNESCO center of Florence is an NGO which is non-for-profit since its founding in 1971 which develops and sponsors cultural, social and cooperative activities at the local and international level. It promotes the principles of the Organization for Education, Science and culture of the United Nations.

Their vision and idea is that ‘seeing as wars begin in the mind of men it is in the minds of men that the defense of peace must be build’ (UNESCO, 1945). They seek to realize this prospective by ‘contributing to building peace, eradicating poverty, developing sustainability and promoting intercultural dialogue through education, science, culture and information communication (UNESCO, 1945)

Students interning in UNESCO are tasked with developing personal projects/research initiatives in line with UNESCO's mission as well as assisting in cultural city events.

Galleria il Bisonte

Description: Il Bisonte is a foundation whose activities are split in two main directions: the school/studio and the gallery/archive. In the School/studio are offered classes in the printmaking techniques, artists residencies, printing service, studio space renting; in the gallery/archive are set up exhibitions of printmakers, is hosted our historical collection and the donated collections, it is moreover the secretariat of the school and some of the activity here done regards the school.

The main focus of our institution is to spread the appreciation for art prints and the skill to produce them, both introducing new artists to it and offering specialization to printmakers. Studio: helping the teachers and seniors assistants, cleaning and setting order, moving around doing what the teachers say, social media, translate of some technical texts

Student interns are responsible for:

Essère Atelier

Description: Essère is a local Fashion boutique in Florence founded in 1997 by Ilaria Tolossi which focuses on fashion merchandising, outfit creation, cloth cutting, and sales operations. Students who intern here will be asked to assist with product creation, development and marketing. Marketing interns will have to keep up with the social media posts, come up with captivating captions for each post, and post an Instagram story every day. They will also be in charge of the blog, the website and photoshoots. Ilaria Tolossi also requires the interns to put together at least one event in the semester and be in charge of the advertising of the event through posts on Instagram, Facebook and fliers. Fashion designing interns will help create clothing, cut fabric, sew on buttons, tags and other manual tasks of the like.

Lottozero Textiles

Description: Lottozero is a research center for textile design, art and culture. Lottozero’s mission is to create a fertile environment for textile research and experimentation in design and art, and an international base for networking in the textile sector. They encourage and support the development of emerging talents of textile art and design through international scouting and targeted residencies in their headquarters in Prato, one of the main textile districts of Europe. We bring talented, motivated, young European artists to Prato. We initiate an exchange between local textile production companies and creative from all over the world.

Student interns will be working with the art team, assisting the curator in the following tasks: research of artists, open calls and art fairs, exhibition’s planning and organization, exhibition preparation and set up, preparing flyers and other basic informational material (writing texts and lay out),PR and communication on social media, website, newspaper and other media forms, support artists in residence.

Working with the design team, the student will be assisting the Art Director and design team with the following tasks: test machines and techniques, create textile samples and make sample books, organize and try out materials, write down instructions for the machines or recipes, support designers in residence, support teaching and workshop activities, help with the organization of the event Fashion revolution Fair, help with the organization of the project launch “Circular Wool”

The Florentine

Description: The Florentine Magazine is a small, highly creative and very hardworking team - they are always open to ideas. While providing guidance and feedback, they expect interns to be enterprising individuals who take initiative: the basis of all good journalism. All interns must have an advanced level of Italian in order to benefit from the bilingual work method. Interns gain a very real sense of what goes on in an editorial team: copy editing and proofreading; interviewing and writing; pitching article ideas; researching news outlets; translating and conveying in English news taken from Italian primary sources; attending press conferences and events; developing photo essays and reportage; social media strategy and commercial strategy; photojournalism and video journalism.

Florence News

Description: Florence newspaper is a cultural association dedicated to news of Florence in english for the city’s international inhabitants and visitars. The newspaper mostly targets tourist and students in Florence but locals read it as well. Here, student interns may work in one of three roles: editor/social media editor, photographer, or video maker. Editors research and record information, write articles, deal with public relations, report on events, edit articles and attend important conferences. Photographers take pictues for the monthly issues as well as for social media. Videographers, instead, take videos for the Florence News TV program.

Casa Boccaccio

Description: Casa Boccaccio, or Boccaccio’s House, is a cultural institute founded in 1957 in Certaldo, in the hills outside of Florence, dedicated to the preservation and the development of the works of Giovanni Boccaccio. It is comprised of a directive and scientific counsel whose mission is to caretake the House of Giovanni Boccaccio; restoring and curating it with the contribution of the local government, bank foundations and student interns. The Casa Boccaccio center organizes exhibitions and conferences on the work of Boccaccio and organizes didactic activities in the schools to spread the knowledge on the historical figure who was Boccaccio. Student interns are tasked with research, online text cataloguing, assisting in the library, providing illustrations for Boccaccio’s text, translating tomes and promoting the writer’s work to the local public.

Swan Gym

Description: The Swan Gym is a local gymnasium in the heart of the Florentine City, a couple of blocks away from the FSU Study Center. In this gym, people from all backgrounds come to exercise and take classes. Student Interns are asked to work on the public relations and marketing aspect of the gym relating to international clients specifically. Through social media management, in person promotional initiatives and logo designs, among other, interns will be dealing quite a bit with American studets in Florence and strengthening relation between this demographic and the Swan Gym
